The Frederick Douglass Memorial

The Frederick Douglass Memorial, in Easton, Maryland, will be the first formal monument in the region where Frederick Douglass was born and raised into a life of slavery…and returned a hero.

A nation-wide competition was conducted to select a design for this memorial honoring the great 19th-Century African-American abolitionist-statesman. The monument will be erected on the front lawn of the Talbot County Courthouse in Easton, Maryland.

The Frederick Douglass Memorial Action Coalition is a grass roots community organization dedicated to education and cultural diversity.

"By his own account, in his autobiography, Frederick Douglass first came to his decision to risk all and defy slavery right here in Talbot County. He passed through a portal, so to speak, and his life and countless thousands of lives were changed forever. We want to honor that passage."

Easton Councilwoman Moonyene Jackson-Amis,
President of the Coalition
